Dr. Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Qualification: PhD in Physics

Sowmya obtained her Masters’ degree from Bangalore University and PhD degree (in the year 2017) from Indian Institute of Astrophysics. After a short postdoc at the Udaipur Solar Observatory, she joined the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Göttingen and researched solar and stellar variability due to magnetic activity. She was awarded the Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellowship in 2018. In November 2024, she started working at the University of Graz as a senior scientist for project REVEAL. Her research interests include modeling brightness variations of the Sun and other Sun-like stars, stellar brightness variability signatures in radial velocity and astrometry. In her free time she enjoys hiking, watching birds and singing.
