Thomas Tunstall

Thomas has studied Astrophysics through both a BSc and an MSc at the University of St Andrews (Scotland). Thomas has previously been involved in projects relating to accreting systems such as Cataclysmic Variables and Active Galactic Nuclei. Working with Professor Andrew Cameron at the University of St Andrews (Co-PI of the REVEAL project), Thomas used MURaM MPS-ATLAS spectra to create an accurate, manipulable stellar spectral model, employing randomisation techniques to preserve photospheric variability. Building on this background with the MURAM MPS-ATLAS simulations, Thomas will pursue his interests in stellar variability by undertaking a PhD at the University of Graz. Working with Dr Veronika Witzke, Thomas will be looking into the signals imparted on stellar spectra by magnetic activity on many different stellar types.
